Now I’m going to say from the jump I have NO letters behind my name and everything I talk about is just MY opinion (yes, we’re still allowed to have those.) After I got sick in December I started doing a deep dive into food and the big food/big pharma and I decided to make some changes and stopped eating all processed foods. Why would “beefy onion soup mix” need sugar in it? But it HAS it….many things I loved I found copycat recipes for or just do without or found organic versions of.
I admit openly that I’m someone that I used to look at the “organic” stuff and saw it as just a way to “pretend” something was healthier to charge more for it. But now…I ONLY buy organic and stopped buying grocery store meat. I never really thought about how much they pump into the animals that conversely we end up eating. Now I’ll NEVER be a vegan or vegetarian because I have a love for meat. But I felt like I could find healthier options, and I have.
I have no sponsors but I’m gonna put some links here in case you’re interested in checking things out. I started with Butcher Box. I love the versatility of their boxes and options, HOWEVER, I found out that it was Australian beef and I have NO issue with that I’d just prefer to buy American in all ways. So I went on another hunt and there are LOTS of options out there, Good Ranchers, Fasteak, and many others, but for now I’m using Wild Pastures. It’s American pastured and humanely raised, sustainable, regenerative practices. I’ve had a few hiccups and if I continue to have issues I’ll change but right now this is the one that I’m using.
I still buy fruits and veggies at the store and I haven’t gotten to canning my own veggies yet, but again I try to buy organic and stay away from anything that doesn’t look like it “came from nature.” I’m not going to lie there are moments when I miss bread and pasta, but not enough to start eating them again right now.
Just a tip, if you’re curious start reading labels closely, compare “low fat” “healthy” options to their typical option and see it’s just a label and nothing is really healthier. Also read labels to find sugar where it doesn’t belong and think if that’s really what you want to put in your body. I decided I didn’t want it in mine.
